Can Quaker Parrots Be Taught to Talk?
Can Quaker parrots be taught to talk? The question was asked with a big dream hanging on every word. They wished the Quaker parrot to talk, but they did not know whether it could. It had refused so far.
Can Quaker parrots be taught to talk? Yes, they can. Most parrots can talk. A lot of people don’t believe their parrot will ever learn, but only a few parrots go through life without speaking.
A Female that Won’t Talk?!
A female cockatiel will not learn to talk. The male can learn, but for some reason, female cockatiels simply do not talk. They can be excellent whistlers, and whistlers’ mothers, but they let their men do the talking.
Quaker parrots do not share this reluctance.
Baby Quaker Parrots
I’ve been told that if you begin work as your baby Quaker parrot hatches from the egg, you dramatically increase the parrot’s chances for learning to talk. It is never too early to begin training a Quaker parrot to talk.
Quaker Parrot Talking
Quaker parrot talking is like most other parrot talking. They try to learn your language, and do a good job of mimicking the sounds. They are not really talking, however. They are not carrying on a conversation. They simply know how to reproduce sounds they hear. A few tricks will help you be more successful in getting them to do that well.
* Choose words that your Quaker parrot will enjoy learning and using. Some words are more “fun” to mimic than others. Some are easier for a Quaker parrot to “get his tongue around” than others.
* Watch your Quaker parrot’s body language when you’re trying to teach it a new word. Does the bird seem to be interested, or is it bored? There are certain things about a Quaker parrot that will show you whether it will ever learn a specific word.
* Be sure you take your Quaker parrot away from its cage to teach it to talk. In its cage, the Quaker parrot is the boss, no matter what you think. Away from its cage, you are the boss. You can teach it to talk more quickly if you take it to a perch in another room.
* Invest in your Quaker parrot’s favorite treats. Keep these treats specifically for times when you want to work on teaching your bird to talk. It will soon learn that it can enjoy the most wonderful taste in the world (to a parrot) when it mimics your sounds.
